We wanted to let you know about two important topics that will be discussed by Community Board 3 this week.
First, city planning officials will finally go before CB3’s land use committee Wednesday evening to detail their plans for sweeping zoning changes across New York. As we reported this past spring, the plan known as “Zoning for Quality & Affordability” has raised alarm bells both in the preservation and affordable housing communities. You can read our previous story here. Local activists have been urging the City Planning Department to appear before the community board for several months, but they delayed a public airing of the controversial proposal as long as possible. The meeting takes place at Grand Street Settlement, 80 Pitt St., 6:30 p.m.
And tonight, officials with the Economic Development Corp. will go before CB3’s transportation committee to outline plans for new ferry service at Grand Street. As previously reported, the news regarding the ferry was warmly received on the Lower East Side but some people believe the Grand Street location is less than ideal. Disagreement on the LES — imagine that! The meeting happens at 6:30 p.m. in the Confucius Plaza Community Room, 33 Bowery.
