The guys at Cake Shop alerted us to the news that longtime Lower East Side vegetarian restaurant Tiengarden is calling it quits:

We put a call into the restaurant a few moments ago for confirmation. The plan is to close tomorrow, after two decades at 170 Allen St.
Allen Street just isn’t what it used to be in terms of foot traffic, they say, so there wasn’t much choice. At the moment, there are no plans to open in another location.
what do they mean about the foot traffic?
Have they been month to month with their landlord for the last 4 years?
