Just Another Night on Norfolk Street: A Spiritual Cleansing Ceremony at La Contenta

Must Read

lacontenta3

It was a New York moment last night on Norfolk Street. La Contenta, the authentic Mexican restaurant that opened earlier this year in a small place just above Delancey Street, held a traditional limpieza (or cleansing) ceremony. Co-owners Luis Arce-Mota, Alex Valencia and the restaurant’s staff all took part in the ancient ritual and then there was dancing outside 102 Norfolk St. The spectacle caught the attention of a large crowd that was assembled at the art galleries across the street for a Parsons School of Design event. We’ve been working on a profile of Luis for our next magazine. Stay tuned for his Lower East Side story.
