James Fuentes is reopening his Lower East Side gallery this coming weekend after expanding into an adjacent space. The new storefront at 55 Delancey St. is doubling in size from the original gallery Fuentes established on the block in 2010. The expansion was overseen by designer Stephanie Goto and features a 28′ x 30′ central gallery with a 13′ ceiling.
The new space debuts on Sunday with the opening of an exhibition by Los Angeles-based painter Noam Rappaport. It will be held from 6-8 p.m.
Fuentes, who grew up on the Lower East Side and continues to live in the neighborhood, helped expand the LES art district beyond Orchard Street when he moved his gallery from Chinatown four years ago. He’s a longtime leader of NADA, the New Art Dealers Association, a group that champions emerging visual artists.
