Chancellor Carmen Farina, at a forum on the Lower East Side, hears District 1 parents talk about increasing segregation in their schools (Chalkbeat).

The Lower East Side’s Puerto Rican population fell from 35,000 in 1990 to 22,000 in 2010. Barber Juan Rosado says: “It’s kind of sad ’cause they running people out by raising prices and raising your groceries, and it’s hard on—the cost of living is difficult for everyone around here.” (NY1)
