CSA Veggies and Fruit

Winter isn’t quite over but things are looking up: it’s almost time for the spring/summer fruit and vegetable season.  Here’s the message we received from the Grand Street CSA:

Grand Street CSA is now accepting registrations for our 2014 summer season. This is our seventh year helping to bring locally grown organic produce to the lower east side. You can register online. CSA members and our local providers will be available to answer your questions  — and provide samples! — on Tuesday, February 25 at 7:00 pm in the Seward Park Co-Op Community Room (268 East Broadway, also known as Building 1). With a CSA, you buy a fixed-price “share” of a farm’s output at the beginning of the season, and receive a selection of their harvest once a week from the beginning of June through the beginning of November. Grand Street CSA partners with Norwich Meadows Farm in Norwich, NY and Lebanon, NJ for fresh vegetables, eggs, meat, and poultry, and fruit from Red Jacket Orchards in Geneva, NY. We also offer add-ons to the basic vegetable share, including fresh organic pasta from Brooklyn’s Sfoglini Pasta Shop, organic maple syrup from Circle C Maple Farm upstate, an expanded selection of dairy products from Milk Not Jails, and local fish from Village Fishmongers. Weekly pick-up is on Tuesday evenings in front of Abrons Arts Center at 466 Grand Street. The summer season starts in June and runs for 22 weeks. More information about what’s offered and how much it costs can be found on our website.
