El Rey, the coffee bar at 100 Stanton St. is relaunching later this week as a full-service, modern-day luncheonette. Owner Nicholas Morgenstern (Goat Town) has brought on Gerardo Gonzalez as chef and partner. According to press materials, the garden-inspired menu is influenced by Gonalez’s Southern California upbringing. Morgenstern said the relaunch takes into account the needs of locals in search of convenient, healthy options — and offers “an oasis of calm in an otherwise chaotic neighborhood.”
On the debut menu, you’ll find items such as a “seasonal falafel” (with minted cauliflower), kale salad, an egg frittata and chia seed breakfast pudding. They’re serving Counter Culture Coffee and an interesting selection of beers and wine. El Rey Coffee Bar & Luncheonette will be open 7 a.m.-11 p.m. weekdays (8 a.m. opening on weekends). The grand re-opening is Thursday.

Menu is way more than I imagined for such a small spot. I really hope it works out for them, love the vibe of the place and the people are great.
