Here’s an update on Gaia Italian Cafe, which has been the subject of a little neighborhood drama lately.  As we reported at the end of December, chef and owner Gaia Bagnasacco decided to close the beloved East Houston Street restaurant due to some unfortunate run-ins with customers, but quickly changed her mind after an outpouring of support from her many fans.
But you’ll have to wait a little while to enjoy Gaia’s home-baked breads and comforting pasta dishes. This is because she’s decided to take a winter break. On Facebook, Gaia announces that she’s going back to Italy for about three weeks. She promises the restaurant will reopen February 15.
After four years, anyone could use a little vacation — especially one in Tuscany.
I just got back from Tuscany. Wonderful. When you reopen, how about an Italian speaking group for dinner every Tues or Thursday evening?
