Two of the neighborhood’s largest and most colorful events are back this week. As you probably know, it’s the Year of the Horse. The Lunar New Year is being celebrated in Chinatown.
On Friday at 11 a.m., the Better Chinatown Society ignites Sara D. Roosevelt Park with the annual Firecracker Ceremony and Cultural Festival. The event is staged on the courts at Grand Street.
And then on Sunday at 1 p.m., it’s the parade, which begins at Hester & Mott streets. The route loops around to East Broadway and then goes up Eldridge and then Forsyth Street.
Check out the Better Chinatown Society’s web site for more info.
A bit of good news: the early forecast shows a high of 37 on Sunday — almost balmy!
