The Seward Park Branch Library has announced the first program of its 2013/2014 Lower East Side Heritage Film Series, Rebecca Lepkoff: In photographs and conversation, on Tuesday, October 15th.
Ms. Lepkoff, a renowned historical New York City photographer and nonagenarian (interviewed by The Lo-Down here), will present a series of prints from the streets of the Lower East Side circa 1930-1980. Many of the photos are unpublished and document the presence of Yiddish signs and storefronts on the streets surrounding the Seward Park Branch Library. She’ll be on hand for a Q and A afterwords.
Rare footage from part one of the archival film: The Seward Park Branch and the Neighborhood It Serves (1934-35, 1941, 1959; 25 min., 16mm) will also be screened.
