If you haven’t gotten a chance to check out the temporary park at Pier 42, this weekend provides a good opportunity. The Lower East Side Kite Festival will be held in the community space tomorrow.
Several neighborhood organizations came together over the summer to coordinate art and community events on a section of Pier 42, which will one day become a large permanent recreational space. The kite festival takes place from noon to 4 p.m. There will be a kite building center, kite-flying competitions, and demonstrations by the Pakistani Student Association and the American Kite Flying Association.
