Summer is here! Yes, today, June 21, is the summer solstice, which means it’s also time for Make Music New York, a free-for all live musical celebration of the longest day of the year.
Now in its seventh year, Make Music NY, has grown to over 1,000 free public concerts in streets, sidewalks, and parks across the five boroughs. Naturally, the LES is right in there showing summer solstice solidarity. Malt and Mold on East Broadway is hosting a day of free sidewalk concerts beginning today at noon with Triple A String Band. Clinton Street’s Culturefix hosts a day of concerts starting with Mass Appeal concert Circuit Bent Orchestra with Hans Tammen, also at noon. Anyone can participate in creating this large multi-movement piece, just so long as you have a circuit bent instrument, noise maker or smartphone! Players need to be on time at noon to get ready for the performance. To join, contact Hans Tammen for more details and to register (they need to know how many people will show up!) hans@tammen.org.
