Here’s a reminder that Ideas City, the New Museum’s four day festival exploring the theme “Untapped Capital” is in full swing. This evening, Kurt Anderson will moderate a panel discussion with several mayors, including Manny Diaz, the former mayor of Miami and Bill Purcell, who was mayor of Nashville. On Saturday, 125 artists, architects, technologists, historians, community activists, entrepreneurs, and ecologists will take place in StreetFest, which will be staged on the Bowery, Sara D. Roosevelt Park and surrounding areas. There’s a dizzying array of events, through the weekend, so it’s best to check the full schedule.
As we pointed out in the cover story of our May magazine, Ideas City kicks off two weeks of high profile arts events on the Lower East Side. Next weekend, the New Art Dealers’ Alliance (NADA) and Cutlog are both staging spring art fairs in the neighborhood. If you’re interested in catching a glimpse of what’s happening art wise on the LES beyond the fairs, the LES BID is sponsoring free gallery tours. On Saturday, they’ll begin at 2 and 3 p.m., launching from the organization’s pushcart, which will be located on Bowery. Click here for more info.
