Warm weather is here to stay. And with it comes a slew of outdoor events. This Saturday, the East River’s Solar One kicks off its First Ever Annual Almighty Foot Clan Anniversary B-Boy Battle.  And that can only mean one thing— breakdancing and more breakdancing. This homegrown athletic and original movement style is born of New York – particularly the Bronx, where groups like the Rock Steady Crew exploded on the scene in the early 80s, showing the rest of America and the world what was happening in the “Boogie Down Bronx.”  Of course the LES caught on fast.

This Saturday’s battle features 32 local crews breaking for prize money and bragging rights.  The event is hosted by
Ru AKA the Black Lion, and
Judged by Gravity – 5 crew dynasty (NYC)
, Pete Nasty – Repstyles (Philly)
, and Miego – Foot Clan/Soul Kings (Seoul Korea).
DJ X on his “wheels of steel” will be spinning favorite old ‘skool’ breaks and house jams.

It’s free to watch, fun for the whole family and only $5 to participate.  As of this posting, there are only two battle spots available, so sign your crew up now!   A leisurely walk or cruise on your bike along the newly paved East River Park esplanade gets you there. And when you arrive, pick up some info on Solar One. This “New York City Green Energy, Arts and Education Center” promotes urban sustainability while encouraging people to re-examine the ways we live and work in order to reduce our impact on the environment.

The First Ever Almighty Foot Clan Anniversary #1 B-BOY JAM
/ Solar One / Saturday, May 18, 2pm-10pm
, Battles start at 4pm sharp / Stuyvesant Cove Park, 24-20 FDR Drive Service Road East (23d St.) / Free.
