If you have been waiting breathlessly for the debut of Sam Chang’s Holiday Inn on Delancey Street, it looks like you won’t have to wait much longer. The hotel chain’s web site indicates reservations are being accepted after April 21.
A quick check of the database turned up a standard room with king-sized bed on April 22 for $210/night. How does this rate compare with other hotels in the neighborhood? According to Expedia, here are some of your other options on that same day: Hotel on Rivington ($293), Best Western Bowery ($259), Comfort in on Ludlow Street ($220) and the Standard East Village ($325).
Sam Chang has been one of New York’s most prolific hotel developers, although he was slowed down by the economic downturn. The 8-floor property includes 132 rooms plus a restaurant going by the name “Retro Bar & Grill.” It is expected to be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week. There are also several ground floor retail spaces in the building, including an 1800 square foot storefront classified as a “community facility.”
The Lower East Side is in the midst of a hotel building boom. As we reported last year, at least 13 new hotels are in the pipeline, adding more than 1600 rooms.
UPDATED: The hotel opened the week of March 18.
