Art Watch: The Public Presents the New York Premiere of “Giant”

Must Read

After kicking off its much needed multi-million dollar renovation with a celebratory block party that showed off a sparkling new lobby and introduced its much talked about Library cocktail lounge and restaurant, it’s back to business for The Public Theater. With its 2012 season underway, the Public is gearing up for one of the biggest musicals it has ever presented, the New York premiere of GIANT.  A co-production with Dallas Theater Center, the show is based on the classic novel by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Edna Ferber and boasts a cast of 22, a 17-piece orchestra and a creative team with enough Tony-nominations to humble even the best and brightest.

Led by book writer Sybille Pearson (the Tony-nominated author of Baby), composer Michael John LaChiusa (the five-time Tony-nominated composer of The Wild Party and Hello Again) and director Michael Greif (the three-time Tony-nominated director of Rent and The Intelligent Homosexual’s Guide…) and a cast that includes Tony-nominated actor Brian d’Arcy James (for his performance of ‘Shrek’ in Shrek The Musical), this baby seems primed for a Broadway run. All the more reason to see it now, in our very own neighborhood.

Giant / Oct 26  – Dec 2 / The Public Theater / 425 Lafayette Street / 212-967-7555 / Regular Tickets: $85 – $95 / Member Tickets: $45.
