On Monday nights, Alias Restaurant on Clinton Street invites guest chefs to curate the menu and cook dinner. Tonight’s dinner is served with a bit of a twist and is sure to provide unexpected, off-the-menu hijinks as Two Fat Trannies, aka Bertha Venus and Fatness Everdeen, helm the kitchen.
Venus, one of the restaurant’s partners who manages the floor, will be behind the stove, along with Everdeen in what promises to be a hilarious sendup of the garrulous ladies meet Lucky Cheng’s.
“We wanted to do a Monday night dinner. I always liked the Two Fat Ladies’ cooking shows and The Hunger Games is out, so we were having drinks one day and decided to create the menu and atmosphere around both,” Venus told us. “We’re going to create a fun atmosphere and dress like paper dolls.” If it’s a hit, the Two Fat Trannies will consider doing a dinner every other month. Diners tonight will each get drag names and can expect KC and the Sunshine Band-style party music, disco balls and lights.
The $40 prix fixe menu features roasted nuts with a tranny twist, the “Double D” (wasabi deviled eggs and dates wrapped in prosciutto with blue cheese & honey) and Mexican hot chocolate, among other delicacies. Yum! We’re getting hungry already.
