You have, no doubt, heard by now that New York Nicks sensation Jeremy Lin has been “couch surfing” in his brother’s Lower East Side apartment. We haven’t found him hanging out on Ludlow Street in the past week (he’s been a little busy turning a basketball franchise around). But here’s the next best thing: a free viewing party tomorrow night on Doyers Street.
New Yorkers in general are pretty excited (to put it mildly) about the Lin story. This euphoria about the 23-year old star is, for obvious reasons, magnified, in Chinatown. Word came yesterday that the MSG Network has decided to host an event tomorrow night at the Nom Wah Tea Parlor.
It all begins at 7:30 p.m. when the Knicks take on the Sacramento Kings. There will be free appetizers, prizes and other giveaways. Fans are encouraged to show up by 7 p.m., at Nom Wah (13 Doyers Street); the event is first come-first serve. Only those 21 plus will be admitted.
The party is part of MSG Network’s campaign to put pressure on Time Warner Cable, which removed the channel from its lineup in January.
