
We have more now on the overnight fire at 39 Eldridge Street, a five story residential building that also houses a preschool. Ten firefighters suffered minor injuries but thankfully none of the residents was harmed. Friend of The Lo-Down Ashlie Cotton, who lives nearby, snapped several dramatic photos soon after the fire broke out, at around 3:30 a.m. Click through for the photos and details about the preschool, which is temporarily displaced.
According to DNA Info, the parents of about 150 kids were having to improvise this morning, following the fire. Preschool of America operates out of the first floor of 39 Eldridge. Their space does not appear to be damaged but the school was “shut down due to lingering smoke and electricity damage.” Many parents found out about the fire and closure as they arrived to drop off their kids today.
Another business, Inhabitat Karaoke, is also located in the building. We’ll see if they re-open tonight. See below for daytime aftermath of the fire:
