It looks like “Little Giant” has called it quits on the Lower East Side. Today Grub Street reports that the restaurant, located at 85 Orchard Street (Broome) “seems to have shuttered quietly over the holidays.”  The phone has been disconnected and someone at Tipsy Parson (Little Giant’s sister restaurant in Chelsea) “confirmed the news.”
Julie Taras Wallach and Tasha Garcia Gibson opened Little Giant in 2004, before this particular stretch of Orchard Street became a mainstream media obsession. They’ve apparently wanted to shutter the place for some time. A hand-written note attached to the front entrance says the staff is taking a holiday break. Brown crate paper has been put up in the windows.
I always thought this was a great spot but they jammed too many tables in. For that reason, I rarely went.
Enjoyed the food immensely but, as of a year or two ago it was hard to figure out their hours of operation. Sorry to hear about this.
Crap times people, crap times. In a few years is only going to be the big supermarkets and shopping malls that are open.
