Here are musician Ken Beasley’s top music picks on the Lower East Side for the Labor Day weekend:
LINDSAY KATT – Sat, Sep 3 | 8PM at The Living Room
Lindsay Katt might be relatively new to some folks, but the young songwriter has already had songs featured on MTV’s “The Real World” and “Teen Mom.” Sure, maybe not the best shows for entertaining the toddlers, but still seen by millions. With an array of personal pop songs and a band of seasoned pros, Katt will be performing to mark the release of her new CD “Picking Out Boxes.” $20//154 Ludlow St.
DANIELIA COTTON – Sun, Sep 4 | 9PM Rockwood Music Hall
New Jersey to New York isn’t far at all, but it’s been a long journey for Danielia Cotton to go from 12 year old girl with an acoustic guitar to the genuine warrior of soul/funk she is today. With a dirty, retro sound reminiscent of Sly Stone, Cotton has opened for some of the greats, including Derek Trucks, B.B. King, and Robert Cray. FREE// 196 Allen Street
ACEYALONE – Mon, Sep 5 | 8PM at The Mercury Lounge
Freestyle Fellowship founding member Eddie Hayes, aka Aceyalone, will be performing at the Mercury Lounge on Monday as part of an all night Labor Day blowout. The evening’s get-down kicks off at 8pm, and includes stellar NYC hip-hop artists including Riddlore, Deathrow Tull, MC Homeless, and The New World Side Order. $10// 217 E Houston St
Splitting his time between performing and producing, contributor Ken Beasleyprimarily plays with his own roots/rock band, Ken Beasley & Co., as well as the power punk outfit, Missy Sport, while also curating the Underground at the Abrons music series on the Lower East Side.
