State Senator Daniel Squadron, Assemblyman Jonathan Bing and advocates for the disabled are urging Governor Paterson to sign a bill that would make certain types of housing discrimination illegal. If enacted, the legislation would prohibit landlords from discriminating against people based on their source of income. There’s already a law in New York City making it illegal to reject an applicant just because they’re on public assistance and/or receive government rent vouchers. The bill would outlaw the practice statewide.
