Weekend Music Picks

Must Read

Here are musician Ken Beasley’s top music picks on the Lower East Side for the weekend:

Cass McCombs

CASS MCCOMBS – Friday, 7/9 at 9pm

In appearance, Cass McCombs bares a slight resemblance to Rufus Wainwright, but in sound there are some major differences, not the least of which are thumping urban beats. His songs are crisp and get moving quickly. Speaking of quickly, he’s fast becoming a critical darling too. See what all the buzz is about at The Bowery Ballroom tonight.

$15 // Bowery Ballroom – 6 Delancey Street

The Renaldo The Ensemble

THE RENALDO THE ENSEMBLE  – Saturday, 7/10 at 11pm

The Renaldo The Ensemble is one of those acts whose name projects the quirkiness of its on-stage vibe. Filled with clarinets, euphoniums, and a cornucopia of percussion instruments, the music is an equal partner to the humor and vaudevillian antics. Visit the Livingroom late on Saturday to check out their loungey cabaret style.

$5 Suggested // The Livingroom 154 Ludlow St

Radar Fiction

RADAR FICTION – Sunday, 7/11 at 7pm

Radar Fiction are fast and furious and have it all wrapped up in an 80’s punk soul. The bass and drums are tight, the guitar riffs are sharp, and the vocals have that fantastic, “I don’t care what my vocals sound like,” quality. Catch them at the Mercury for a pulse pumping set this Sunday.

$8 // Mercury Lounge 217 East Houston Street

Splitting his time between performing and producing, contributor Ken Beasley primarily plays with his own roots/rock band, Ken Beasley & Co., as well as the power punk outfit Missy Sport, while also curating the Underground at the Abrons music series on the Lower East Side.
