Make sure to catch Rebecca Lepkoff at the Tenement Museum tonight (as mentioned in this morning’s News Links). Lepkoff has been photographing life on the Lower East Side since the 1930’s and she is celebrating the paperback release of her book, Life on the Lower East Side: Photographs by Rebecca Lepkoff, 1937-1950.

The book includes more than 170 beautifully reproduced duotone photographs, revealing the dynamic cultural melting pot that continues to make up the communities of the Lower East Side.  Lepkoff, now 94, will speak with two historians who wrote essays for the book — Suzanne Wasserman, director of the Gotham Center for New York City History, and Peter Dans. See a slide show of some of her photos in a NY Times article here.
