Our friends at the Henry Street Settlement are looking forward to an interesting event taking place in their beautifully restored dining room at 265 Henry Street Friday evening. The New Amsterdam Market is holding a Winter Night Banquet, an “exploration of the region and its seasons.” It’s a multi-course dinner benefiting the market’s School of Regional Cookery, envisioned as “a place where all New Yorkers can learn to shop for and prepare economical and nutritious meals, season by season.”
While the event is sold out, the organizers are auctioning two additional tickets on ebay. Bids are starting at, ahem, $1000. If you happen to have some money to burn (for a good cause), you’ll have to act fast (bidding closes tomorrow).
By the way, New York Magazine just named the New Amsterdam Market the city’s best outdoor market. They’ll be returning for a new season in May at the South Street Seaport. They’re also trying to establish a permanent market at the Seaport, an idea that was recently endorsed by City Council Speaker Christine Quinn.
