The forecast calls for flurries this morning and wind (10-15 mph). Clearing by mid-day with a high of 36 degrees. Good news for the weekend! Sunny and 49 degrees on Saturday.

It was quite a scene outside the Fashion Institute of Technology last night, where MTA held a hearing on its proposed service cuts.  Some people got so frustrated with the long wait to get inside, they gave up and went home. We’ll have a full report, including video excerpts, from Paulina Reso later today. Shortly after noon today, Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver will be in Chinatown, helping to celebrate the return on residents to 22 James Street. There was a tragic fire in the old tenement building more than a year ago. We’re following up on the intriguing rumor that the guys who brought the Guss’ Pickles name a few years ago are planning to open up a shop somewhere near Russ & Daughters.

And, of course, we’ll have some ideas for your weekend on the Lower East Side, maybe even some “Oscar” themed suggestions to celebrate Hollywood’s big night.
