Good Morning

Photographer Joel Raskin shoots the Beekman Tower from a "Lower East Side" vantage point.

You’ll need that umbrella again today. The forecast calls for more rain until around noon, when it will start to taper off. Look for a high of 40 degrees and wind gusts up to 15 mph. We won’t get much of a break. More rain (turning to snow) is expected beginning late tonight and continuing into tomorrow.  We begin the day with the photo above from Joel Raskin – he took notice of the topping off at the Beekman Tower, now  the city’s tallest residential building (76 stories).

In the news, Community Board 3 passed a resolution last night calling on the federal government to move the 9/11 terror trials out of New York. We’ll have more later today on the emotionally charged debate. We’re also looking ahead to tonight’s meeting of the Panel for Educational Policy, where the controversial Girls Prep expansion plan will be voted on. As usual, we’ll have some ideas for your evening in the neighborhood. Among the highlights: a talk by “Save the Deli” author David Sax at the Museum at Eldridge Street.

One other note. If you haven’t done so, check out the conversation going on at EV Grieve about the New York Times’ hyperlocal ambitions in the East Village. It’s a fascinating discussion. We’ll have some thoughts of our own on the new venture this week.
