The Lower East Side Girls Club is throwing a big party and benefit next week in honor of Fat Tuesday. It’s their Mardi Gras Masquerade Ball. The event features Mardi Gras Queen and King (respectively) Grammy-nominated singer CuCu Diamantes (Yerba Buena) and author Joathan Ames (HBO’s Bored to Death). There will also be live music by Loose Marbles (a New Orleans band) and the Hungry March Band, as well as special guest DJs.
The Free Arts Society will be there to do a live art installation. Two Boots Pizza is providing the food.
Proceeds will benefit the Girls Club and two other organizations — the Batey Relief Alliance (benefiting Haiti) and the YA/YAs (New Orleans).
The Mardi Gras Masquerade Ball takes place Tuesday from 7-midnight, at Element, 225 East Houston at Essex Street. There will be an open bar from 7-8 with New Orleans inspired cocktails. You can buy tickets in advance for $22 dollars. VIP tickets include an authentic Louisiana dinner and cost $125. For more information, visit the LES Girls Club’s web site.
Masks and costumes encouraged!
