The Albany Times Union reported from Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver’s annual brunch reception, held on “State of the State” day:
The Assembly Parlor is packed with officials and well-wishers pressed cheek by jowl, spilling out into the hallway.
Among those sighted — State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli (giving and
receiving many warm hugs and handshakes from his former colleagues in
the Assembly), newly inaugurated NYC Comptroller John Liu, Rep. Scott
Murphy, Albany Mayor Jerry Jennings, Manhattan District Attorney Cy
Vance, among others.A kosher spread of bagels (from New York City, of course), lox, cream cheese and whitefish is on offer.
The reception appears more packed (by my eyes, at least) than in
previous years. As one observer put it, “People smell blood. They know
where the power is.”
Later the newspaper added: The reception was paid for by Friends of Silver, the
speaker’s campaign account, according to Silver spokesman Dan Weiller.
