In 2009, The Abrons Arts Center offered a year packed full of assorted avant-garde, experimental, musical and visual delights. Now, artistic director Jay Wegman (profiled earlier this year by the NY Times) has earned bragging rights by making two of The New Yorker's "Best" lists. Banana, Bag & Bodice's show, "Beowulf-A Thousand Years of Baggage" (mentioned by The Lo-Down in one of our earliest posts here) made the "Goings On About Town's Best Off Broadway Shows of 2009" list and Justin Bond's "Christmas Spells" (featured by The Lo-Down here) made Hilton Als "The Best Theater of 2009" list. We look forward to Mr. Wegman's offerings in 2010.
