Meeting Next Week to Discuss New Pre-K & Kingergarten Admissions Policy

Must Read

The following letter was sent to Lower East Side parents this week by District 1’s Community Education Council, Assemblyman Brian Kavanagh and Senator Daniel Squadron:

Dear Parents,

As many of you know, the pre-K and kindergarten admissions process in District 1 has been an issue of great concern in the community. That’s why we’ve worked together to propose a fair solution that works for parents and kids and promotes diversity.

We are happy to report that, after we expressed the concerns of the many District 1 parents who had advocated for an improved admissions policy, we convinced the Department of Education (DOE) to change its admissions for District 1 students.

Please join us at a special session of CEC 1 for a DOE presentation on admissions on Wednesday, December 9th at 6 PM in the auditorium at the Corlears Complex, located at 220 Henry Street. The meeting will be an important opportunity to get information on the new policy, including how it will affect your family, and to voice any questions or concerns. We encourage you to call our offices for more information, and we look forward to seeing you at the meeting.

Sincerely,

Daniel Squadron, State Senator, 25th District
Brian Kavanagh, Assembly Member, 74th District
Lisa Donlan, President, Community Education Council 1
