The State Assembly was up late last night (and so was the Daily News). Speaker Sheldon Silver, Ways and Means Committee Chair Herman D. Farrell, Jr., and Higher Education Committee Chair Deborah Glick announced today the Assembly passed critical cuts to the 2009-2010 budget in order to meet the current budget deficit, without decreasing crucial funds to the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP).

The MTA's Inspector General reports (via NY Times) our subway system is not prepared to respond to fires, crimes and other emergencies, potentially leaving riders at risk.
