There’s old and then there’s old. In the case of Katz’s, which we featured on the cover of our November issue, there’s no arguing the 125-year-old deli’s exalted status on the Lower East Side. For locals, no doubt, there are drawbacks. Sure, you’re craving that legendary $16.95 pastrami sandwich, but are you really willing to stand in line with all of those tourists waiting for their admission tickets? Even so, most of us are comforted to know that this slice of Jewish Americana is still going strong at the corner of East Houston and Ludlow streets.
