How Tall Will Extell’s South Street South Street Tower Rise? The Guessing Game Continues

We’ve known for a long time that Extell Development’s residential tower at 250 South St. would be massive. But in the absence of any actual information from mega-developer Gary Barnett’s team, local residents have been left to troll through often unreliable Buildings Department documents for clues. At various times in the past year or two,  there’s been speculation that the luxury building would rise to 68 stories, or 71 stories or, perhaps, 56 stories. Now there’s a new guesstimate!

Yesterday afternoon, the tenant association at Two Bridges Tower, located next door to the construction parcel, tweeted the latest intel from papers Extell filed with the city’s land records office. The documents lay out the company’s plans for a huge condominium project on the former site of the Pathmark grocery store. Drawings show an 80 story tower, with two penthouse units, plus a separate 15-story affordable building with a separate entrance on Cherry St.

Extell has so far declined to publicly unveil its renderings, although some images have been leaked. The builders will meet with local residents later this summer. Until then (and perhaps even after that time), it’s anyone’s guess how tall Barnett’s Lower east Side monster will really be when it’s complete.
