LES Bites: Contra and Pearl & Ash Teams Prep New Restaurants, Fung Tu Makes Its Mark, Chinatown Ice Cream Factory

Must Read

Let’s take a quick look at this week’s Lower East Side restaurant news:

Eater reports that Jeremiah Stone and Fabian von Hauske of the highly regarded restaurant Contra re opening a new, more casual spot at 142 Orchard St. “Wildair” will feature an a la carte menu, shareable plates and a big wine list. They’re hoping to open sometime next month.

On Monday, part of the team from Pearl & Ash, will open a new spot next door at 218 Bowery. Grub Street has a look at the menus for the new restaurant, which will offer a modern twist on classic French cuisine.

Bloomberg shows some love for Fung Tu chef Jonathan Wu, who’s offering creative interpretations of Chinese food on Orchard Street. Comparing the restaurant with nearby Mission Chinese, Tejal Rao writes, “The new incarnation of Mission Chinese is an ostentatious, caviar-slinging flavor party, loud in theme and delivery, while Fung Tu is quieter and more serious (with a seriously good drinks program to match…).”

EV Grieve is continuing to follow the plight of the Stage Restaurant.

NBC News profiles Chinatown Ice Cream Factory.

Miller’s Near & Far on Rivington Street has relaunched as “Miller’s Burger & Bar,” a more accessible neighborhood spot.
