Next month, Community Board 3 members will choose their next chairperson. Gigi Li, who has served as chair since 2012, is expected to run for re-election. It comes as no surprise that she will have at least one opponent: East Village resident Chad Marlow.
Last night, members of CB3’s nominating committee noted that Li and Marlow are the only two candidates who have advised the elections panel of their intention to run. Candidates have until next Tuesday at 5 p.m. to notify the nominating committee. Prospective candidates can also be nominated from the floor at CB3’s full board meeting, which will be held that evening (6:30 p.m.) at P.S. 20. The 50 members of Community Board 3 will select a chairperson, as well as other officers, at the full board meeting in June.
It’s been a tumultuous year for Li. Most recently, she came under fire over the issue of racial diversity in community board leadership. Marlow is a leader of a group of board members who have been meeting privately for several months to discuss concerns about a number of key CB3 decisions.
