Fat Radish Team to Open “Too Good Traders,” Third Orchard Street Restaurant

Must Read

22 Orchard Street.

The stretch of Orchard Street between Canal and Hester has changed quite a lot in the last couple of years.  Two newcomers making a big impact on the block are young Brits Ben Towill and Phil Winsor, who opened Fat Radish in the fall of 2010.  Just yesterday they debuted Leadbelly, an oyster bar right across the street from Fat Radish.  And Monday night, they’ll go before Community Board 3’s liquor licensing committee to outline plans for a third restaurant, “Too Good Traders.”

The new spot, featuring rather fancy “Thai street food,”  will be located inside 22 Orchard, the former home of Yankee New York Noodle, Inc.  Up until now, Towill and Winsor have been running their catering company (which is all the rage in downtown fashion circles) out of the storefront.  The menu, which was uploaded as part of their CB3 application,  might give you sticker shock.

Some examples: seared duck salad with banana blossom, Thai basil & roasted eschallot dressing ($44); slow cooked peanut curry of Cape Grim beef brisket ($44); jungle curry of barramundi with pea eggplants, bamboo, wild ginger & holy basil ($42). The restaurant will be open for dinner only seven nights a week (12:30 p.m. closing time).  The application requests a wine and beer license — no full bar.
