You’ve devoured their creations at the Hester Street Fair. Now the Brooklyn Taco Company is gaining a permanent home on the Lower East Side. This afternoon we learned proprietors Jesse Kramer and Erica Molina are taking a small stall in the Essex Street Market.
Time Out New York called their tacos, made with ancho-chile braised brisket, one of the 26 best tacos in the city. Until now, Brooklyn Taco was only available at the Hester Street Fair and “Artists and Fleas,” in Williamsburg. A little while ago, Jesse was setting up their LES stall, which is in the back corner of the space once occupied by Jeffrey’s Meat Market.
This afternoon, Kyle Sklerov, spokesman for the NYC Economic Development Corp. said, “We’re excited to be adding Brooklyn Taco to the Essex Street Market, which will complement the diverse food offerings at the market.” The EDC, which operates Essex Street, expects to lease the front portion of the old Jeffrey’s space to one or two additional vendors.
Jesse is a graduate of the French Culinary Institute and has worked at Maialino, famed restauranteur Danny Meyers’ spot in the Gramercy Park Hotel. Erica, a New York native, has been nurturing her love for Mexican food for several years. Brooklyn Taco is committed to using high quality ingredients, and “pay(s) homage to Mexican agriculturists, artisans and small entrepreneurial companies who struggle day to day in order to expand their businesses and maintain their culture in Brooklyn.”
