APL

“Top Chef” alum Camile Becerra bolted this place amidst lots of hype that preceded its long-delayed May 2011 opening, but owner Joey Verdone and his partners perservered. APL (pronounced “apple”) offers an eclectic bar menu, artisan cocktails by mixologist Jeremy Osslund and a late-night hotspot.

Tre

Tre draws its culinary inspiration from Naples, where owner/chef Gino Piscopo was born.  The intimate little restaurant with a charming backyard seems a bit out of place on rowdy Ludlow Street. But once inside, you’ll be transported. The service is warm and the food well prepared. There’s a nice selection of pastas and small plates, such as fried rice balls and fried artichokes.

Wing Shoon

In the former home of the legendary Garden Cafeteria, this old-school Cantonese restaurant does a reasonably decent job with dim sum, barbecued meats and seafood dishes. The price is right. Downside: they don’t deliver.
