Orchard Street Safe Haven Proposal Back at Community Board 3 in February

Here’s a look at what’s coming up at Community Board 3 in February.

As previously reported, community board members hoped they’d be getting details regarding a homeless safe haven this month. But because the operator of the proposed facility in the Blue Moon Hotel, the meeting was rescheduled for the human services committee on Thursday, February 4. Representatives from the nonprofit operator, Not on My Watch, and the NYC Department of Homeless Services are expected to be in attendance. Local landlords and businesses have filed a lawsuit to block the homeless safe haven from opening.

–On Monday, February 8 the committee that reviews liquor permits will meet to go over numerous proposals, including one for a Spanish tapas bar at 14 Orchard St. The new spot is a project from the owners of Bar Belly, located right next door.

–On Tuesday, February 9, members of the transportation committee will review feedback from the rent town hall on the city’s Open Street/Open Restaurants program.

–On Tuesday, February 16, the land use committee will receive an update on the rebuilding of 70 Mulberry St., the community facility destroyed by fire.

–On Wednesday, February 17, there will be an update for members of the parks committee on the East River Coastal Resiliency Project.
