Sweet Pickle Books, a used bookstore and pickle shop, opened at 47 Orchard Street this week.  Offering used books and homemade pickles, the shop also “buys books, libraries, records and weird things and accepts donations of all genres, types and sizes. Pick-ups may be available.” Owner Leigh Altshuler tells us this is her first store, but she has worked in many bookstores, including a few years as the communications director at the all night Strand.

Altshuler left the Strand last year to work for The McKittrick Hotel/”Sleep No More” live production, but lost her job in March as the pandemic hit, so, she says she “figured it would be the perfectly crazy time to open my lifelong dream! And here I am!”

As for the pickles, she says, “It’s the Lower East Side! What else?!”
