We are continuing our collaboration with New York City News Service for our Lower East Side Voices video series. Here’s a look at the Malaysian “coffee shop,” Kopitiam, from Allyson Escobar. The cafe moved to East Broadway this past summer and has been garnering rave reviews ever since.

Escobar writes, “After rent closures forced the original location of Kopitiam to close on Canal Street, the hybrid Malaysian restaurant and coffee shop re-opened on East Broadway over the summer, preserving its intimate, family-like atmosphere and authentic Southeast Asian cuisine.”
