Jonathan Flaum submitted this photo, taken yesterday at the corner of Canal and Eldridge streets. The “Cup & Saucer” signage was being removed from outside the beloved former lunch counter.

Cup & Saucer operated under the same ownership for more than 30 years. The iconic sign was affixed to 89 Canal St. decades earlier by the restaurant’s original Jewish owners. The restaurant closed in July due to a steep rent increase.

Owners John Vasilopoulos and Nick Castanos have talked about reviving Cup & Saucer at a new location in the neighborhood.
