Celebrity chef/television star Eddie Huang is coming back to the neighborhood with a new restaurant at 48 Bowery. The Taiwanese spot, Baohaus, is a collaboration with Jonathan Chu, whose family developed the new hotel at 50 Bowery.

An application for a full liquor license was posted on Community Board 3’s website several days ago. DNAinfo yesterday made note of a video on Huang’s Instagram account, announcing the new venture:

Huang first opened a version of Baohaus in a tiny spot at 137 Rivington St. in 2009. A couple of years later, he closed the original location and set up shop on East 14th Street. Huang is best known for his ABC sitcom, Fresh Off the Boat, which is based on his best-selling memoir.  He also has a show on Viceland.

The space at 48 Bowery is part of the Canal Arcade, a collection of restaurants and shops that’s been in the Chu family for decades. In addition to Hotel 50 Bowery, which includes high profile restaurants from the Talde team, Chu also owns Chikarashi, the Canal Street poke spot, and Nickel & Diner on Centre Street.

Chu was recently appointed to Community Board 3.
