The Citywide Ferry is Coming — First to the Rockaways, Then to the Lower East Side

Installation began yesterday out on the Rockaways (Beach 108th Street) for the first citywide ferry landing. While this may not seem like a Lower East Side story, it is of local interest. That’s because a ferry stop is coming to the East River waterfront as part of the new service in 2018.

When the Rockaway Beach route begins this coming summer, it will take passengers first to Brooklyn Army Terminal and then to Pier 11/Wall Street.  Other routes include South Brooklyn and Astoria. A landing will be installed at Grand Street (near the East River park bandshell) in the spring of 2018 during the second phase of implementation. The LES ferry will also make stops at Stuyvesant Cove, Pier 11 and East 34th Street.

The landings will be 35 feet wide and 90 feet long, and will feature a canopy and wind screens to protect passengers from bad weather.

You can read more about the service here.
