There’s a whole lot happening on the Lower East Side this coming weekend. Organizations throughout the neighborhood are hosting community events as a warm up to summer 2016. Here’s the Lo-Down:
–Tomorrow, there’s a big block party to celebrate the 76th birthday of the Essex Street Market. Many of your favorite food vendors will be set up outside, and they’ll be joined by popular LES restaurants, such as Cafe Katja, Pies & Thighs and the Fat Radish. The event takes place from noon-5 p.m. on Essex Street, near Rivington Street. Click here for more details.
—The Hester Street Fair is back with its second weekend of the season tomorrow. The food lineup includes: En Japanese Brasserie, Spur Tree, Scarrs Pizza and Football Cafe.
–Sunday from noon-6 p.m., the Greek Jewish Festival is back for a second year. Hosted by the Kehila Kedosha Janina Synagogue, there will be lots of delicious food, traditional Greek dancing and music plus tours of the historic synagogue on Broome Street. The festival will be set up on the block between Allen and Eldridge streets.
–Also on Sunday, it’s Family Fun Day at Corlears Hook Park. From 1:30-3:30 p.m., there will be all sorts of activities, including a puppet show, arts & crafts and face painting. More details here.
–On Sunday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., the East River Co-op will host its first annual yard sale. It happens in the basketball courts next to 573 Grand St.
-Saturday and Sunday you catch all the skateboard action at Harold Hunter Day; Coleman Skatepark under the Manhattan Bridge. Details here.
–Today and tomorrow, the artists at the Clemente host Open Studios. The event, Lost & Found, will be hosting a reception tonight from 8-10 p.m. Here’s the Facebook invite.
