Don’t worry. The Lower East Side is not losing its last retail pickle store. The Pickle Guys has been a fixture at 47 Essex St. for more 12 years. Now owner Alan Kaufman is opening a new outpost at 357 Grand St., right across the street.
According to a memo sent this afternoon from management of the Seward Park Co-op, the property owner, Kaufman has leased a space currently occupied by a legal and tax office. The storefront is located on the southeast corner of Grand and Essex streets. The memo indicated that the legal/tax firm will be taking over a space at 365 Grand St. (currently being used by the “Popped” pop-up store).
In the past, co-op managers have touted the value of developing a food-centric corridor along this section of Grand Street. Several months ago, Kossar’s Bialys opened a renovated store at 367 Grand St. Doughnut Plant is ensconced at 379 Grand St.
