Happening Today: Elizabeth Street Garden Meeting, New Museum Opening, Occupy Wall Street Film

Some of the things happening on the Lower East Side today:

–This evening at 6:30, city officials will appear before Community Board 2 to present plans for a senior housing development on the Elizabeth Street Garden site. The proposal has pitted garden activists against City Council member Margaret Chin. Scholastic Building, 557 Broadway.

–District 1’s Community Education Council will meet tonight from 6-8 p.m. at P.S. 20, 166 Essex St. Details here.

–Today the New Museum opens an exhibition by artist Cheryl Donegan, which will “tackle the ways and means by which our connections to the past are produced, fabricated, and renewed, particularly in fashion and art history.” The fifth floor show, titled, “Scenes and Commercials,” can be viewed during the museum’s regular visiting hours, 11 a.m.-6 p.m.

–At 7 p.m. at Bluestockings, there’s a screening of the film, “All Day All Week: An Occupy Wall Street Story.” Here’s the Facebook invite.

–The introspective West Coast songwriter, Andrew St. James, plays Mercury Lounge at 7:30 p.m. Ticket info here. Then at 10:30 p.m., the Canadian hard rock band, The Trews, take the stage. $12.

–At 7 p.m., New-York-based indie band, Supersmall, featuring songwriter Colin Dempsey and drummer Daniela Schiller, debut their new album at Rockwood Music Hall. $10.

–At 7:30 p.m., Dixon Place presents, “Fast Forward,” a dance series that features Autumn Kioti, Katy Gunn and Shauna Sorensen. $15.
