As summer winds down, New York media outlets are coming out with their fall previews. New York Magazine this week offered some intriguing details regarding Lower East Side restaurant and bar openings. Here’s a summary:
>The splashiest debut of the fall will be that of Hotel Indigo at 180 Orchard St. It will include a “sure-to-be-sceney” spot on the 15th floor called Mr. Purple. It’s a project of the Gerber Group, which runs bars like the Irvington on Park Avenue South and Whiskey Park. There will be two terraces, notes New York Mag, “one of which houses a pool and its own bar.” Food is apparently going to come from Russ & Daughters and Katz’s.
>Suffolk Arms, the new venture from Giuseppe Gonzalez (you may remember him from Essex Street’s PKNY), is supposed to reveal itself at 279 East Houston St., in September. Word of caution, though: this place has been “opening soon” for more than a year, so don’t be surprised if there’s another delay.
>This past spring, Dimes reopened their wildly popular cafe in a larger space at 49 Canal St. Now the old spot, at 143 Division St., is set to become Dimes Deli, a takeout shop and produce market. A September debut is planned.
>Also next month, Yunnan Kitchen on Clinton Street will become Yunnan BBQ. It will feature “local, sustainable, and ethically raised meats from vendors like Cascun Farms and Bobo’s Buddhist Chickens.”
>The long-delayed sandwich shop from Wylie Dufresne’s dad, Dewey, will hopefully open in October. Numerous construction complications have prevented BYGGYZ from emerging at 37 Clinton St., but an opening looks to be just a few weeks away.
>The bar replacing Clinton Street watering hole Barramundi will be called Garfunkel’s. Few details here, but the casual downstairs space will feature a Pat La Frieda burger. Upstairs, in the former 2nd Floor on Clinton space, cocktails will be created by Lucinda Sterling of Middle Branch in Midtown.
