Lower East Side History Month continues this week with several interesting events, including Moving Stories (more on this later today), Destination Downtown, a community garden walking tour and an Essex Street Market brunch series. But this morning we want to jump ahead to something happening next week — a “LES Love Mob” on Clinton Street.

It’s happening Thursday, May 21 in support of local businesses. The story-sharing event pairs artists with business owners to explore the neighborhood’s history through “commerce and culture.” The artists will help guide participants up and down the block, making introductions with each business and telling their unique stories in the community.

The tour begins at 6:30 p.m. at the former home of Rothstein’s Hardware at 56 Clinton St. (the longtime LES business was forced to relocate to Ridge Street to make way for a new luxury condo project). The group will wind up at the C.O.W Theater at 21 Clinton St.

Featured businesses include: Cibao Restaurant, Rothstein’s Hardware, Socrates Hair Design, Santo Domingo Bakery and East Village Wine and Liquor. Artists include: Rachel Zaretsky, Erin Sweeny, Kerry Cox, and others. Bridget Bartolini of Five Boro Story Project will facilitate storytelling at the C.O.W. Theater.

This event is being coordinated by Fourth Arts Block (FAB), GOLES and ALBOR with support from EmcArts Inc.
